BSSG-Symposium, Stirling 2002

Dear Friend in Glass Blowing

Introduction:

I am the Liaison Officer for the British Society of Scientific Glassblowers [BSSG]. I operate a glassblowing business and act as the BSSG Librarian all from the above address. I was the Chairman of the BSSG during 1994-1998 and have attended two International European Symposia - Stromberg [VDG] and Segovia [ANSVC].

Stirling, Scotland - 2002:

I am pleased to announce that the British Society of Scientific Glassblowers will be holding the first International Glassblowing Symposium of the new millennium in the old and historic Royal Burgh of Stirling. The "Toun" and Castle of Stirling owes its existence to its strategic position at a river crossing first established by Roman Legions in 180A.D.

Modern Stirling retains the best features of its two thousand year history and offers many amenities to suit visitors' needs. The International Symposium will be held at the purpose built "Stirling Management Centre set in parkland close by the monument to William Wallace - the freedom fighter who's fame was revived through the film -"Braveheart".

Scottish Section:

Your hosts for the International Symposium will be the Members of the Scottish section of the BSSG. The membership in Scotland is spread throughout the Nation and will be fully committed to ensuring that you and your colleagues will receive the finest welcome for your stay in Scotland. The Council of the BSSG is actively supporting the efforts of the Scottish section.

Please come!

You are earnestly encouraged to inform your Glassblowing Society Members and to liase with me to ensure that your own domestic annual Symposium does not coincide with the above dates. Full details of the programme and booking forms will be distributed soon. In the meantime, if you have any questions please contact any of the following:

International Symposium 2002 Secretary: Willie McCormack williamm@chem.gla.ac.uk
