Dear Kon
On behalf of the BSSG I wish you and all members of the VDG a very
successful symposium. I have fond memories of the special bond
between our glassblowing Societies clearly on show in 2007 at the
European Symposium in Veldhoven. That was a very rewarding experience
and I felt we have built upon that to learn how to cope today with
serious financially challenges that we all face. The BSSG shares with
the VDG the great desire to encourage, educate and communicate with
fellow glass enthusiasts, primary scientific but acknowledging other
disciplines being vital to a healthy future. We also share along with
the ASGS and other societies worldwide the diminishing level of
resources available and thus this makes working together even more
important.
The BSSG appreciate the participation that the VDG make to the BSSG
Symposiums, in particular this year in Glasgow, Scotland where
several VDG members have signed as delegates. I extend a heartfelt
thanks and am very appreciative of all involvement at all levels.
This is my final year as BSSG Chairman and although I am writing in that
capacity, I also write as a friend to you and look forward to
renewing old friendships as well as making new ones. Perhaps next
year when I have more time I may be able to attend a VDG Symposium as
I hear they are very well managed and entertaining.
Once again best wishes to all in VDG and have a safe and rewarding
symposium. I raise my glass and drink your health.
Best regards
Ian Pearson
BSSG Chairman
